Lingshui direction (east, 1-hour drive): The easiest day trip. Main attractions: Boundary Island (diving + dolphin show, 132 RMB entry+ferry); Nanwan Monkey Island (cable car + wild macaques, 164 RMB); Qingshui Bay (the "singing sand" beach, free). Recommended route: 8am depart → Boundary Island for swimming + lunch → Nanwan Monkey Island afternoon → Qingshui Bay sunset → 7pm return. Must-eat: Lingshui sour noodles (10-15 RMB/bowl) with sandworm and dried squid.
Baoting direction (central, 1.5-hour drive): Rainforest + hot springs combo. Main attractions: Yanoda Rainforest (198 RMB entry + zipline); Binglanggu Li & Miao Cultural Park (135 RMB entry + buggy); Qixianling Hot Springs (150-300 RMB soak). Route: 7:30am depart → Yanoda until noon → farmhouse lunch (bamboo rice, five-foot pig) → Binglanggu afternoon for Li weaving demo → Qixianling hot springs at dusk → 8pm return. The "fire-making by drilling wood" show at Binglanggu is stunning.
Wuzhishan direction (deep central, 2.5-hour drive): The most hardcore day trip, suited to hikers. Main attractions: Wuzhishan Tropical Rainforest Scenic Area (85 RMB entry, 3-5 hour hike); Li minority villages (free, traditional boat-shaped houses). Note: Wuzhishan hiking is strenuous — not for elderly or kids. Bring 2L of water, snacks, hiking boots. For a non-hike alternative, Yinggeling viewing platform (drive-up, free). Stop for dinner in Baoting on the way back.
